Just want to share my adoption experience (its not all perfect)
I see a lot of posts that make adoption sound like this perfect fairy tale experience and I wanted to share a more realistic view.
I adopted my pit mix Bruno 2 years ago. He came with a LOT of baggage - fear of men, resource guarding, separation anxiety. The first 6 months were honestly really hard.
We've done professional training, medication for anxiety, and tons of patience. He's made huge progress but we still have bad days.
I'm not saying this to discourage adoption - I'd do it again in a heartbeat. But I think people should know that rescue dogs often need extra work. If you're prepared for that, its incredibly rewarding. Bruno is my best friend now.
For anyone else working through issues with a rescue - it gets better. Keep going.
